RETROFIT MQL BRINGS FINANCIAL GAINS IN REACH OF ‘OLDER’ MACHINES

The latest version of bielomatik’s Minimal Quantity Lubrication (MQL) system has been engineered specifically for machine retrofit, allowing machining operations to be changed more easily from use of conventional water-based lubrication of the cutting tip to that of a money-saving, highly efficient MQL system.

bielomatik’s latest Single Channel MQL system delivers a fine aerosol spray directly to the cutting tip.  The manner in which the oil-based aerosol is created and managed is crucial in achieving the correct level and rate of dosage.  Bielomatik achieved this within the Company’s special second generation multi-valve aerosol generating unit, delivering MQL to the cutting tip through the spindle via a rotary transmission unit or externally using positional nozzles, giving total control over discharge levels for different cutting tools.

Other components that automatically work in harmony in the latest single channel MQL unit are the multi-valve and a proportional valve system to smooth out any potential fluctuations in the delivered output, ensuring both correct preset pressures and oil flow are maintained.  They add to the effectiveness of the bielomatik MQL system ensuring that it delivers the correct amount of lubricant to the cutting tip, extending tool life and maintaining surface finish.

The cost of purchasing, maintaining and disposing of cutting fluids has become a significant factor when evaluating a machine’s operating cost.  Up-grading to the bielomatik MQL system which delivers precise measured quantities of lubricant to the cutting tip offers tremendous beneficial financial gains.

Apart from initially reducing the amount of lubricant being purchased, any machine shop that switches to MQL benefits from much easier disposal of metal cuttings since they are virtually oil-free, and machine performance is enhanced, particularly production time.  Machining operations have been reduced by as much as 50% without detriment to the quality of the finished component.

The bielomatik Single Channel MQL system comes complete with integrated controls that add to the power that it brings to the production floor . 30 different programs can be selected to accommodate different tooling and component machining operations.

Recognition of the financial and environmental benefits of MQL systems mean that nowadays new machine builds often come complete with MQL technology; it has invariably been more difficult and more costly to add to ‘older’ machines.  The latest Single Channel MQL system from bielomatik overcomes most of the difficulties, enabling existing machining operations to be converted to MQL and thus enjoy all the inherent benefits.

For companies genuinely interested in switching to MQL technology bielomatik is able to provide a test rig allowing users to judge for themselves the environmental and costs saving to be made.
